Nature of Work:The Substance Misuse Prevention Specialist will utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework, a public health planning model, to implement substance misuse prevention initiatives including providing support, training and technical assistance to prevention coalitions in Anne Arundel County. This professional staff position is responsible for overseeing the four Substance Use Prevention Coalitions of Anne Arundel County through the stages of the Strategic Prevention Framework model including needs assessment, capacity building, strategic planning, implementation and evaluation. The position will provide coordination and technical assistance to the coalitions and oversee community grants for prevention initiatives. This public health professional will develop substance use/misuse prevention materials using health communication strategies and principles. The position requires strong verbal and written skills. The position involves monitoring grants, budgets, and reports. The duties of the position require experience in public speaking, use of a personal computer such as Microsoft Office, data collection and analysis, capacity building, strategic planning, and implementation of prevention programs.Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in public health or similar from an accredited college or university.Experience:

2 years experience with managing public health programs.Desired or Preferred Qualifications:Experience monitoring grantees; Experience with conducting needs assessments, strategic planning and building capacity for public health programs. Requires travel throughout Anne Arundel County for assigned program activities as needed. Must provide their own transportation, possess a driver’s license valid in Maryland and will receive reimbursement for official travel expenses per Department of Health policies.How to Apply
