We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate veterinarian to support the medical and surgical needs of our shelter animals and provide HQHV Spay/Neuter surgeries on public pets and community cats. Volunteers as neededKey Responsibilities:Direct and perform comprehensive medical services to all animals in shelter and foster care, including physical examinations, diagnostics, medications, and treatmentsPerform surgeries on shelter animals, including spay/neuter surgeries, wound repairs, and morePerform dental procedures on shelter animals, including cleanings and extractionsPerform high-volume, high-quality, safe spay/neuter surgeries for public animalsProvide compassionate pre- and post-operative care, monitoring patients closelyMaintain accurate medical and surgical recordsCompassionate communication with all stakeholdersProviding compassionate end of life decision makingCoordinating Shelter Medical Operations:Analyze and review medical protocols and proceduresContinually improve the veterinary services programFocus on identification, treatment, and prevention of health concernsProvide direction to medical support staffProvide training to shelter staff and volunteers on medical topicsCoordinates and assists with medical forensics for cruelty and neglect casesEnsure a positive public image to enhance the operation of Hawaiian Humane SocietyJob Conditions:Work Environment:

Indoors in typical shelter environment and outdoors in all types of weather. Hawaiian Humane Society has 2 beautiful campuses, one located in Ewa Beach and the other in Honolulu (Moiliili area, near UH Manoa).Hours:

Full-Time or Part-Time availability. Full-Time veterinarians work 4 days per week, 10 hours each day. Some on-call triage support is required (all DVM's share rotation of on-call duties).Requirements:DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary schoolActive and unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in Hawaii or eligibility to obtain oneKnowledge of current trends and best practices in shelter medicineUnderstanding of local, state, and national laws regarding animal shelter agenciesMinimum 2 years' experience with high quality/high volume spay/neuter and other routine surgeriesSelf-starter who is organized, innovative, flexible, detail-orientedAbility to work collaboratively in a respectful and professional mannerPassion for animal welfare and our missionPosition Competencies:Analytical and critical ThinkingExcellent problem-solving skillsCollaborative and respectful working relationshipsPreserve community partnershipsEffective conflict managementCommitment to InnovationCommitment to ongoing learning and professional developmentStrong mentorship skillsDesired:Experience with Petpoint and Clinic HQ
