High-Volume, High-Quality Spay/Neuter Veterinarian

Position Overview:

Hawaiian Humane Society, located on the beautiful island of Oahu, is seeking a veterinarian skilled in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter to join our spay/neuter clinic. As one of the leaders in reducing pet overpopulation, we make a profound impact on improving animal welfare in Hawaii.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform spay/neuter surgeries on owned animals as well as TNRM cats each working day, with minimal complications.

Perform other surgical procedures as needed.

Perform pre-operative examinations and make decisions regarding each animal's health and suitability to undergo surgery.

Provide follow-up exams as needed.

Record information regarding animal health, treatment, medical history, and controlled substances used in compliance with federal, state, local and other regulatory guidelines.

Build effective relationships through positive interaction and communication with clients, staff, and volunteers.

Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of veterinary protocols and procedures for the clinic.

Have reliable and on-time attendance.

Provide mentorship and training to veterinarian interns, externs, VSA's, RVTs and other staff veterinarians on HQHV procedures as needed.

Perform necropsy cases, as needed.

Effectively communicate any complications to clients.

Collaborate with Chief Veterinarian on policies, procedures, processes and training.

Be in alignment with Hawaiian Humane Society's vision, mission, core values & beliefs, and positions on animal welfare.

Perform CPR in accordance with RECOVER standards and direct team.

OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Conditions:

Work Environment:

Indoors in a typical shelter environment and outdoors in all types of weather.

Hours:

Full-Time or Part-Time availability. Full-Time veterinarians work 4 days per week, 10 hours each day. Flexible scheduling available.

Requirements:

DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school.

Active and unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in Hawaii or eligibility to obtain one.

Current DEA license or ability to obtain DEA license.

2+ years' experience practicing veterinary medicine in a full service, high surgical volume environment.

Experience in a variety of surgical techniques.

Demonstrated excellent surgical skills.

Experience in a HQHV setting.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work well within a fast-paced environment.

High attention to detail.

A progressive professional philosophy that humane organizations are partners working together with common goals to reduce pet overpopulation, improve animal welfare and support shelter diversion where possible.

Knowledge of current trends and best practices in shelter medicine and familiarity with the ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Shelter Medicine.

Understanding of local, state, and national laws regarding animal shelter agencies, veterinary medical authority in the shelter setting, infectious disease reporting requirements.

Ability to work at either campus.
