Part-Time Interdisciplinary Studies Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Interdisciplinary Studies. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach classes as assigned from the regular Interdisciplinary Studies curriculumAssist in curriculum assessment and revisions and new course developmentConsult with students during regularly scheduled office hoursMaintain expertise in current teaching methodologies and curriculaPerform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needsMinimum Qualifications:Possession of a Master’s or above in the interdisciplinary area OR Master’s or above in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline OR the equivalentDemonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffExperience in developing effective contextualized teaching and learning strategies for first-year students, middle college students, and high school studentsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Teaching experience in the discipline, including developmental reading and writing, learning skills, tutoring, and college success; community college level preferredUnderstanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community collegeAbility to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiencesKnowledge of and experience with technology and programs applicable to classroom teaching (i.e. multimedia methods of instruction)Currency in brain-based learning and adult learning theoryStrong communication and leadership skillsAbility to make a positive contribution to Interdisciplinary Studies and the Academic Support and Learning Technologies Division
