ITLE : Staff Accountant, Grants & BudgetLOCATION : Alexandria, Virginia with possibility of Remote workFLSA : ExemptDIVISION : Finance & AccountingDEPARTMENT : FinanceTRAVEL REQUIREMENT : NoneHOURS and SCHEDULE : Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm (37.5 hours within five (5) days per week); unless otherwise required or approved by management.REPORTS TO : Works under the general supervision of the Director, Grants Compliance and Budget.SUPERVISION EXERCISED : NoneRESPONSIBILITY FOR PUBLIC CONTACT : Daily contact requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment.LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION : NoneGENERAL DESCRIPTION : Position is responsible for supporting the Director, Grants Compliance and Budget and the Senior Accountant, Grants, with federal and private grant reporting and analysis; maintaining grant and budget documents; providing accounting support to other divisions of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as assigned; and assisting with the development, maintenance and monitoring of division budgets in accordance with federal regulations, organizational policy, and specific funder requirements.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Support the preparation and distribution of monthly project analysis reports for federal and private grants to ensure proper expenditure of funds against approved budgets as assigned.Assists with compiling documentation for federal grant training and conference activities to include preparation of budget requests, obtaining required approvals, and completion of final financial report forms.Assist in the preparation of financial reports and drawdown requests to federal and local grantors.Prepare other financial reports, documents, and files as requested.Schedule and participate in departmental financial statement review meetings and assist with distribution of project status reports.Serve as a liaison with finance and budget managers; respond to budget inquiries.At the direction of Director, Grants Compliance and Budget, support the annual and grant budget processes by coordinating schedules, identifying and communicating status and deadlines, and preparing materials.Develop and maintain budget calendars, instructions, and other helpful information and budget tools for departments.Conduct initial review of department budget estimates for completeness, accuracy and conformance with federal procedures and prevailing policies as assigned.Review the General Ledger for miscoding to unbudgeted sources.Support federal monitoring requests and the yearend audit by maintaining grant and budget documents in a clear and intuitive manner.Maintain and update grant funding schedules as assigned.Respond to staff with funding and coding questions and requests.Cross-train and support other finance positions.Promote and exhibit loyalty to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the cause of protecting children worldwide.Promote a professional image.Communicate with co-workers, management, Law Enforcement officials, and others in a courteous and professional manner.Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.Respond promptly when returning telephone calls and replying to all correspondence.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related fieldMinimum of two (2) years of accounting job experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Understanding of accounting theory.Working knowledge of federal grant requirements; experience with Department of Justice awards a plus.Knowledge and experience using a computerized financial system; NetSuite preferred.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Solid analytical capabilities a must.Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.Demonstrated word processing, spreadsheet and database software proficiency.Adaptability, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team or in an individual capacity.Ability to handle and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive material and information.
