Part-Time Cosmetology Electives Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Cosmetology. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach classes as assigned from the regular Cosmetology Department curriculum in one or more of the following areas:- Fundamental and advanced skills involved with becoming an entry level make-up artist, including high fashion make-up skills, special event make-up, corrective make-up, and editorial make-up- Technique and maintenance for wigs and extensionPosession of a valid California State Board of Cosmetology License is required for Duties and Responsibilities #2-4.Instruction designed for students that have completed or are currently enrolled in the Cosmetology program:- Advancement of natural hair care skills as well as discussion of career opportunities in natural hair care. Topics covered include: history of natural hairstyling, disinfection and sanitation, hair types, basic anatomy, and natural hair and braid sculpting techniquesInstruction designed for current and former students of the Esthetics program and State of California licensed estheticians:- Focuses on the advancement of esthetics procedures. Topics covered include: chemical and mechanical peels, electrical modalities, body waxing, and speed waxing. Also, introduction of medical esthetics and exploration of career opportunities in this fieldInstruction designed for students enrolled or graduates of a cosmetology or esthetician program and/or licensed cosmetologists and estheticians:- Introductory skills for creating semi-permanent eyelash enhancements. Will include types of eyelash extensions, eyelash perms, eyelash tinting, and techniques for application, client services, and career explorationConsult with students during regularly scheduled office hoursMaintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologiesPerform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs. The College offers day and evening classesMinimum QualificationsPossession of any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below)Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded-practice both within and outside of the classroom
