Summary:

The Cabin Counselor

is responsible for providing daily support and guidance to the campers assigned to their group. Cabin Counselors work cooperatively with other staff within their cabin to foster camper independence while ensuring individual needs are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Live with an assigned group of campers, assisting them with activities of daily living (ADLs), including but not limited to showering, toileting, feeding, dressing, etc., as needed.Accompanied participants in scheduled programs, actively participating and engaging them.Communicate promptly with Cabin Leader, other cabin staff, Unit Coordinator, and/or camp administration regarding any camper or cabin concerns.Facilitate building camper self-esteem and socialization through positive interactions.Work with Cabin Leader and other cabin staff to plan and initiate age-appropriate free-time activities for the cabin group as needed.Be knowledgeable regarding the individualized needs of all campers assigned to your cabin and take the initiative to communicate any concerns regarding needs.Ensure camper care is provided in a way that meets all local, state, and federal health department regulations, ACA (American Camp Association) standards, and MSDE (Maryland State Department of Education) requirements.Assist in completing Session Summaries and other paperwork in a way that meets all requirements of documentation for various funding sources.Assist in facilitating camp programs, tailoring presented activities to each camper’s ability level.Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Unit Coordinator.Demonstrate the 5 Core Values of The League (Accountability, Participant Focus, Quality, Independence, and Mutual Respect).Operationalize the mission of The League for People with Disabilities and Camp Greentop.Job Relationships:

The Cabin Counselor

works under the supervision of the assigned Cabin Leader and Unit Coordinator. The Cabin Counselor works closely with an interdisciplinary team of cabin staff to support the various needs of the assigned campers within the cabin.

RequirementsMinimum age of 18Ability to lift participants up to 50 lbs. in accordance with established safe lifting procedures.

Education and/or experience:

Past camp or recreational experience preferred.Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
