We are looking for Respite Camp Counselors for our Respite Camp Weekends in 2023-2024! Scheduled weekends based on YOUR availability!What We Have for You!Sign up for weekends that work for you! You’ll spend that weekend among 30 acres of beautiful forest while creating endless opportunities for campers with disabilities to live their best life! You’ll build friendships with fellow counselors as you work as a team to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all our campers with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and/or developmental disabilities.Why We Need You!We are now seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and caring individuals to join our Weekend Respite Camp team! Camp staff receive a wonderful training program, incredible experiences that translate into many different professions, and an opportunity to have fun while making a huge difference!What We Expect of YouAssist campers in daily activity areas: meal times, swimming, boating, arts, ropes and all other camp activities while being aware of physical and emotional limitations of campers.Assist in program planning based on pre-arranged educational/recreational themes while adapting activities, as needed, to allow active participation by all of your campers.Be a role model to help your camper have a positive experience with the activities and friendships while providing emotional support and encouragement.Maintain constant supervision of campers, provide physical assistance to campers when necessary, assist campers in emergency (fire, injury, etc.)Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniquesCare for all physical needs of campers needed assistance. This may include dressing, feeding, toileting, showering etc.Follow all camp policies and procedures in accordance with state licensing as directed by the Camp DirectorWork closely with Heath Office Staff to ensure familiarity with the special needs, medical conditions, dietary concerns, safety requirements and/or behavioral problems of the campers.Assisting in incoming and outgoing camp activities including check in and cleaning of the cabin and other camp areas.Responsible for keeping the cabin and camp areas clean. Keep all camp supplies and equipment in good shape and organized.Responsible for any other duties as assigned by Camp Director or Lead Counselors.Hours/Pay:Shifts are filled by sign up for dates throughout the year. either weekend respite camps (Friday-Sunday) or one day respite camps (Saturday). Weekends are paid at $260 plus free room and board. Saturday camps are 8 hours at $10.75 per hour.What Do You Need to Qualify?Clear background check from local, state, and federal agenciesCommunication skills – with campers, coworkers, Health Office, families, and guardians.Complete all paperwork and required training.High School graduate or equivalent, or at least 18 years of ageDesire to work with individuals both youth and adults with physical, cognitive, and/or developmental disabilities.Understanding of HIPPA confidentiality and sensitivityAbility to assist in teaching and assisting campers with activity participationEnthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, compassion, self-control and team playerAbility to lift at least 50 lbsPhysical ability to respond appropriately to situations at camp. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.The work is performed indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather for long periods of time.No use of alcohol or drugs while working or while at campPosition Information:Schedule: Live on campus from Friday 3:00 p.m. to Sunday morning at noon.Included:Living quarters – in cabin with campers.
