Part-Time Health Science Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Health Science. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach in a variety of health career related courses including basic health science.Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours.Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.The person selected for the position may be expected to teach evening classes or classes on local high school campuses as part of regular workload.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a Master’s or above in health science, health education, biology, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition, or public health OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s or above in any biological science OR the equivalent.Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach health science courses.Ability to incorporate technology-mediated instruction in the classroom and/or to teach curriculum using distance education.Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken language.Ability to work independently and as part of a team of faculty and staff.Commitment to supporting gender, ethnically, culturally, and academically diverse students enrolled in health sciences.Ability to use teaching methods that engage students actively in their learning, emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and encourage them to learn problem-solving skills.Capacity to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of one’s own pedagogy and modify techniques to improve student achievement of learning outcomes.Understanding, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission of the community college.Special Instructions Summary:Required application materials will be screened on the basis of Requirements and Desirable Skills and Abilities listed in this announcement.
