Job Qualifications

Education: California Certified ParalegalExperience: 1+ years Civil Litigation experience required; Employment Law experience preferredLanguage:

English. Spanish preferred but not requiredExcellent written/verbal communication skills with attention to detailExcellent hands-on computer skillsAbility to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work well independently and within a teamAbility to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate filesFamiliar with case management software, Microsoft Word Suite, Adobe Pro, and other legal technologyFamiliar with California Discovery Act and all deadlines and dates.

Job Responsibilities

File and serve complaints, proofs of service, other pleadings, motions and trial documents and strong experience and knowledge of court filing systems, procedures, and requirements of State and Federal CourtsAssist with propounding and responding to various forms of discovery, such as written discovery, setting depositions, responding to demands for physical examinations, with extensive knowledge of the notice and deadline requirements of discoveryEdit and finalize litigation documentsMaintain internal case database (Smart Advocate)Perform transcription and transcribes dictationMaintain the Sr. Attorney and department’s calendar by scheduling, rescheduling, or cancelling appointments. Alert attorneys about cancelations or new meetingsScheduling mediations and depositionsRespond to emails and correspondence on behalf of the attorneysMaintain filing systemsPlan, coordinate, and ensure timelines for department’s legal matters including materials for meetings, conference calls and follow-up itemsCoordinate and arrange for court interpreters as needed for casesGeneral clerical duties include copying, scanning, faxing and data entryAbility to organize and prioritize tasks and complete them under time constraintsDrafting of court documents and preparation of court filingsOther duties may be assigned in addition to those listed
