Part-Time Learning Disabilities Specialist (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Learning Disabilities. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Implement the Learning Disabilities Program, consistent with the mission of the California Community Colleges and in coordination with the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS).Provide assessment and verification of learning disabilities with assessment procedures described in the Guideline for Identifying California Community College Students with Learning Disabilities.Write individualized education plans for students.Provide appropriate referrals and accommodations.Select appropriate materials.Train and direct the work of staff, including tutors who work with students with learning disabilities.Maintain accurate records for each student receiving services.Provide information and outreach to high schools and community agencies.Enhance the orientation program for students with learning disabilities.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a Master’s or above in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling AND 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of learning disabilities, to include, adult cognitive and achievement assessment OR the equivalentCompletion of the California Community College Learning Disability Eligibility Model TrainingDemonstrated experience or training in the administration and interpretation of standardized diagnostic instruments as indicated in the Learning Disabilities Eligibility ModelDemonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Two years’ experience working with adult students with learning disabilities in the college setting.Experience administering and interpreting the current appropriate achievement and cognitive assessment instruments.The ability to understand the implications of behavior elicited by a specific disability.Knowledge of other disabilities, including acquired brain injuries, psychological, and developmental disabilities.Ability to design and implement intervention strategies and academic accommodation strategies.Knowledge and experience with assistive computer technology (both hardware and software) for students with learning disabilities.Experience teaching and/or advising at the high school or college level.
