Under general supervision, the Assistant Health Educator participates in the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of a wide variety of health education programs within the Department of Public Health; assists in the development of communication strategies and materials; conducts community assessments and prepares reports; and performs related duties as required.NATURE OF POSITION:

This position may require sustained physical effort involving continuous walking with some bending and stooping in conducting activities with occasional exposure to health and safety hazards and other unpleasant conditions. Also requires sustained time working at a computer workstation. May occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.Examples of Important and Essential Duties:The essential functions of a 2819 Assistant Health Educator include, but are not limited to:Participates in the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs.Assists in conducting statistical studies to assess program effectiveness.Provides assistance in the development of communication strategies and materials, such as flyers, presentations, and social media.Conducts community assessments including surveys, focus groups, and direct education with community members and community agency staff.Conducts educational sessions with target groups on specific health subjects.Provides referrals to treatment centers within the Department of Public Health.Maintains close working relationships with stakeholders and funded community-based partners.Plans, organizes, and conducts orientation programs for new employees.Assists in setting up in-service training programs.Arranges tours and talks for visitors and other persons interested in the department's functions and programs.Confers with supervisor regarding assignments, problems, and progress.Participates in team meetings.The 2819 Assistant Health Educator also performs other related duties as assigned.How to qualify

EDUCATION:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree with a major in public health, sociology, biological sciences, or a closely related field.Substitution:

Professional health educator work experience performing duties equivalent to those of City and County of San Francisco Class 2819 Assistant Health Educator may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years).

Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.Important Note:
