Job Description
AECOM has an immediate need for a Water/Wastewater Design Director for the New York Metro (NYM) Water group, reporting to the NYM Water Regional Business Line Leader. This role will oversee design production activities with a focus on multi-discipline water/wastewater design projects for large municipal clients. The ideal candidate will have a proven record delivering designs in the water/wastewater market sector, an interest in developing and mentoring team members, demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams, and ability to lead development of new clients/projects and manage delivery of design projects throughout the planning and design lifecycle. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Oversees the design production activities throughout the project life cycle of multiple projects for an operating unit to ensure quality deliverables within industry standard of care.
Responsible for technical project delivery of multi-discipline water/wastewater design projects.
Aligns resources that best fit the needs of the project, provides technical directions, approves the conceptual designs.
Responsible for adherence to all design codes, regulations, and industry standards, coordination of work across the multiple disciplines of a given project, working with CAD/BIM managers and staff to develop CAD/BIM plans and ensures adherence throughout design.
Supports project managers for the development of overall project scopes of work.
Works with discipline leads to development discipline scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
Works with project manager and project controls staff to develop overall project cost-loaded schedule and budget to meet project needs and in adherence to AECOM’s design policies and procedures.
Responsible for monitoring project progress and takes necessary corrective actions to maintain scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality.
Ensures that ESG and sustainability goals are applied to design projects.
Leads reviews and coordination at design milestones.
Presents designs to client when appropriate.
Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.
Initiates and maintains contact with senior-level management within the company and is skilled in dispute resolution and negotiation of critical issues. Demonstrates understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, foresight, working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high quality technical excellence.
Demonstrates mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual operations problems, determining operational objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BS in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering. and 12 years of related experience, including 4 years of leadership experience.
Registered Professional Engineer
DBIA or Associate DBIA certification
12 years of experience in water/wastewater/water resources consulting and engineering management
Demonstrated experience as project manager or design manager for water/wastewater projects with construction value greater than $50M
Demonstrated knowledge of water and wastewater treatment, pumping stations, collection and distribution systems and client/consultant relations experience.
Demonstrated experience and capability to plan and execute multi-discipline design projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Registered Professional Engineer licensed in New York or capable of obtaining the required license within 9 months of employment.
15 years of related experience in water/wastewater/water resources consulting and engineering management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Participation in water community activities including Water Environment Federation and American Water Works Association.
Proven ability of leading business development activities, pursuing new clients/projects, and managing project deliveries.
Proven leader with an interest in developing and mentoring team members and demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $225,000.00 - $260,000.00.
