We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing DevOps Platform team.As a Senior DevOps Engineer your focus will be on building applications that are easier to deploy, quicker to rollback, more reliable, and easier to monitor with a focus on Kubernetes as your primary platform. You will work with developers to integrate and streamline development workflows, review design/code, and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed. You will collaborate with development teams to improve the deployment, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of our cloud-based services. In this role, it is important to help improve the experiences of our development teams, observability and telemetry across the company, and the overall engineering culture.You will create and build onto platforms that give teams a productive and secure environment to work with. You must be focused on security while also enabling the developers to move at maximum velocity. You are encouraged to create innovative automated solutions and tools to help debug and resolve problems in production and prevent them from recurring. You should be enthusiastic about taking on new unknown challenges and be able to debug complex problems under pressure.What You Will DoDesign, develop, test, automate, and maintain Kubernetes as a platform for Vizio’s development teams.Be a Kubernetes advocate staying on top of latest news, pushing for adoption of best practices and willingness to coach & educate.Write helm charts, including helm templating to enable developers to only worry about application/service specific details.Enhance products, tooling and system solutions for cloud-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CI/CD tools e.g. GitHub Actions/Argo CD, and scripting with languages like Python or Typescript.Huddle and collaborate with developers to integrate and streamline development and deployment workflows.Parachute into teams’ codebases to help them with grace and care for their code and team.Review design/code and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed.Willingness to contribute to and maintain existing documentation including educational content, system architecture diagrams, post-mortems, and incident management runbooks.Participate in weekly gunslinging rotations every 6-7 weeks where you will be the front line for helping developers with one off requests.Present DevOps concepts across engineering whether through slack or brown bags.Triage application and system issues to debug, track, recover services quickly.Willing to be on-call every 7-8 weeks managing 0-2 incidents per week.Contribute to scrum process improvement; mentor team members; manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.About You2-3 years of experience with software development; fluent in more than one programming language.3-5 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure development/deployment/maintenance of the container orchestration ecosystem Kubernetes.Bachelor's Degree in Cloud Computing or equivalent experience.Experience with a range of Kubernetes tools, for example (or tools similar to) Kyverno, Karpenter, Kubecosts, K9s, Kops, Kubectl, Argo CD, CoreDNS, Lens, etc.Understanding of cost management strategies within Kubernetes, including efficient bin packing (or effectively equivalent) practices.Experience with service meshes, secret management, and multi-cluster (both communication and blue-green deployments) related to Kubernetes.Deep understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and tools such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.Expertise with the IaC tool: Terraform.In-depth knowledge of networking, security, and some knowledge of operating systems.Understands observability and its overall importance to the company’s software ecosystem.Finds huddling with and talking to other teams important and is willing to work in another team’s codebase and respect their space.Embraces the challenge of building platforms that are well documented and easy to use for development teams around the company.Enjoys working with the team in person 4-5 days per week.Consider yourself to have a good work ethic and a dependable teammate.Experience in debugging complex problems and problem-solving under pressure; enthusiastic about taking on new problems.About VIZIOWe are Beautifully Simple.Headquartered in Irvine, California, VIZIO is a leading HDTV brand in America and the #1 Sound Bar Brand in America. The minimum salary for this position is $110,000/year. In addition to base salary, the compensation package also includes eligibility for an annual bonus, as well as equity and a range of medical, dental, vision and other benefits.
