Colorado Children's Campaign is seeking a Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement!

WHAT WE DO

We advocate for the development and implementation of data-driven public policies that improve children's well-being in health, education, early childhood, and family economic prosperity.

As the leading voice for Colorado's children at the state Capitol and in communities across the state, the Children's Campaign has been at the forefront of hundreds of policy wins for kids. Among the numerous laws and programs, we've helped establish are the Colorado Preschool Program, Child Health Plan Plus, the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, and the creation of the new state Department of Early Childhood.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Colorado Children's Campaign. This individual will lead advocacy initiatives, assist with coalition-building efforts, organize key events, and foster community engagement.

Our work design is hybrid, with a minimum of two days attendance in our downtown Denver office expected.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

This role will be responsible for a series of tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Advocacy

Develop and manage advocacy activities and campaigns focused on advancing the Children's Campaign's policy priorities in early childhood, youth success, child and family health, and family economic prosperity.

Engage in advocacy and learning with staff and key stakeholders across the Children's Campaign's priorities, including policymakers, state agency staff, organizations, and community members.

Engage in learning and advocacy with and on behalf of those most impacted by changes to policy to help create meaningful ways for communities to inform the Children's Campaign's policy solutions and engage in advocacy to advance those solutions.

Collaborate with staff members to develop and disseminate key communications and tools such as the annual KIDS COUNT in Colorado! report, an electronic newsletter, legislative fact sheets, and other advocacy resources.

Organize in-person and virtual advocacy events, including ‘Speak up for Kids' Day', webinars, and community presentations, including planning, building attendance, coordinating with participants, and overseeing the execution of the event.

Community Engagement

Reengage, strengthen, and grow the It's About Kids network - the Children's Campaign's statewide network of child advocates.

Foster strong relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partners. This includes understanding community needs and representing the organization at community events.

Collaborate with staff members to coordinate and deliver community presentations with a focus on relevant KIDS COUNT data and upcoming advocacy opportunities.

Collaborate with staff members to develop strategies to strengthen policy coalitions, facilitate coalition members' engagement, and ensure alignment of the coalition's goals with the Children's Campaign's goals.

Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to staff members undertaking coalition building and outreach targeting diverse communities across Colorado.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION

4-year degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Education, Social Work or Political Science, or in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

5 or more years of experience in community outreach and/or advocacy.

Experience working in a nonprofit, supervising people/programs, project management, planning/implementing advocacy events, and network/association management is strongly preferred.

Proven computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

Requires superior organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.

Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Must have good negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy.

Must be an outstanding communicator and considered to be a developer of programs who is comfortable working and collaborating with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships to drive programs to meet strategic goals.

Experience applying an equitable analysis to all duties to achieve organizational goals and demonstrate the Colorado Children's Campaign commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.

WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING

Expected annual salary range of $79,167 - $92,000 based on experience.
