Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Example of Duties
The Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides evidence based population based, comprehensive public health nursing services to address community needs including communicable disease control and prevention. epidemiological investigations. immunizations, obesity, reproductive health needs, family planning and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STl) screening, treatment, and education. Provides community education on health topics. Educates and provides direct health care services to vulnerable and at-risk populations in the clinic and in the community. The PHN works in partnership with individuals. communities, groups. organizations and systems to improve health. Through the Core Functions of Public Health (Assessment. Policy Development. and Assurance), the PHN intervene in all levels of prevention to safeguard the health and safety of the population in the community. Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health (DOH) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Associate degree in nursing, and experience in public or private health care.
Current acceptance and enrollment in a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science (RN-to-BSN) bridge program from an accredited college or university.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, and experience in public or private health care.

Valid State of Alaska driver's license by the time of hire.
Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse License by time of hire OR if an applicant is not currently licensed in Alaska, a temporary Alaska Nursing License must be obtained by the time of hire. (Regular license must be obtained within 180 days of hire.)
Current American Red Cross / American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the equivalent within 90 days of hire.
AHD HIPAA certification within 30 days of hire.
