Mission or Goal of Unit:

Children's Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System will support the General Pediatric Division devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.

Chief Purpose of this position:

The Chief purpose of this recruitment is to provide excellent evaluation of patients and families who are experiencing abuse and neglect, outstanding education to learners at all levels, and to strategically enhance our research and application of quality and safety in pediatric care at CHoR.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching

Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the subspecialty area of child abuse under the division of General Pediatrics. Faculty will also provide guidance to residents, medical students, and other learners. Each pediatric intern rotates for four weeks on the Child Protection Team. Faculty member will participate in on going statewide training on child abuse and neglect that is sponsored by CHoR and targets other health care and non-health care professionals who provide service or care for children in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Research

Faculty member will be able to secure revenue through grants and contracts in the field of quality and safety in provision of care. She or he will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division.

Service

Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees especially as these relate to quality and safety. Service will also be performed at the local, regional, and national levels.

Clinical

Faculty member will serve as a Child Abuse Pediatrician for the Department of Pediatrics. Faculty will participate in current and future MOUs providing medical direction for off-site health care facilities who are evaluating abuse and neglect victims within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)

Helping to develop and oversee outcomes and health systems research in child abuse and neglect.

Required Qualifications:

Board certified or board eligible in Child Abuse PediatricsExperience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21Experience with education of house-staff, medical students, and othersExperience with researchDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCUQuality Improvement training/experience in general pediatricsPreferred Qualifications:

Advanced training in clinical research and/or epidemiologySuccess in securing research grants and contractsSetting up unique systems of care for children who have experienced trauma in the setting of abuse and neglect
