Position Summary:

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing assistance with curriculum and program planning for Head Start. The position reports to the Center Director and operates under close supervision with little latitude for the use of independent judgment, discretion and initiative.

Essential Job Duties:

Ensure safety in performing all job responsibilities and adhere to safety policyMaintain clean/safe work area, classroom, and gross motor and playground areasAssist with planning and preparation of daily activitiesEncourage parents to give input into daily curriculum and document on lesson plans and to complete physical, dental and health screenings and follow-up in a timely mannerAssist with the implementation child’s Individual Education Plan / Individual leaning Plan into classroom activitiesIntegrate activities from all content areas into the classroomProvide customer service in reception, greet and direct visitors at the siteFollow step-by-step activities as outlined in content area plans and policies and proceduresParticipate in professional development, sometimes off-site, at the request of supervisorResponsible for and able to handle confidential materialCommunicate with parents about daily experiences if teacher is not availableAssist or model correct tooth brushing dailyAssist with family-style mealsAll employees are expected to adhere to OWBC ethics and expectationsMust be able to cooperate and work effectively with othersMust be diplomatic, honest and fairRegular and Punctual attendance is an essential function of the positionPerform other duties as assigned or as they become apparentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.Ability to work effectively with others.Ability to assess the health and behaviors of children by sight and sound.Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements and policies.Ability to organize, prioritize and utilize effective time management techniques.Ability to respect confidentiality at all times.Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Texas driver’s license.Obtain and keep current Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certificationsWorking Conditions:
