The Department continues to have a long and successful record in training Undergraduate, Master, and Graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for the laboratory of Dr. Jiyoung Lee. Dr. Lee's laboratory investigates cancer signaling and metabolism using cell lines, patient tumor tissues, and animal tumor models. This research support position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures. The position will assist with cell cultures and maintenance, molecular and cell biology experiments including transfection, DNA/RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, protein analysis, western blotting, and viability assays. They will assist with animal tumor injection, drug treatment, monitoring animal welfare, and animal husbandry using mouse models. The Research Assistant will be directly trained and supervised by the PI on a daily basis. Once trained, they will be responsible for assisting in performing experiments under the direct supervision of the principal investigator and trained senior researchers. The Research Assistant will also receive mentoring and direct guidance from the senior researchers to advance their career in academic research. The primary job functions do not require exercising independent judgment. They will work with other researchers in the lab to support a collaborative research environment.Responsibilities include:Assists in maintaining cancer cell lines according to the PI’s instruction.Assists in maintaining buffers, solutions, and aliquots for research activity in the lab.Assists in maintaining polyacrylamide gels for western blots.Assists in performing protein, DNA, RNA isolation and quantification.Assists in performing viability and proliferation assays and functional assays using cell lysates.Assists with basic mouse experiments such as body weight monitoring and ear tagging and recording information.Assists in performing transfection and transduction of cancer cells.Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline.
