The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is seeking a Director, Affiliate Relations. NAEYC is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. NAEYC advances a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.

The Director, Affiliate Relations plays a crucial role in building and strengthening relationships with NAEYC's Affiliates, a network of 51 nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing local member engagement opportunities, resources, conferences, professional development, and advocacy efforts for members and the early childhood education community. You will be responsible for deepening the relationship between Affiliates and the national office, providing capacity-building support, resources, and technical assistance to affiliate staff and board members, ensuring their success in fulfilling NAEYC's mission and promoting high-quality early learning in their communities.

Key Responsibilities

With guidance from the Senior Director, drive development of a revised affiliate model, including strategy, identification and mitigation of potential issues, development of solutions, and negotiation of updated contracts.

Partner with Marketing and Communication Teams to participate in the development and execution of marketing and communication initiatives to engage Affiliates.

Analyze data and trends to identify areas for improvement and growth within the Affiliate Network and make recommendations to initiate changes.

Lead actions to expand the development and implementation of Affiliate recruitment and retention strategies.

Represent NAEYC at events and conferences, including designing and delivering presentations that build awareness and support major strategies.

Lead strategic planning to strengthen organizational stability through a collaborative and comprehensive process that includes internal and external assessments and environmental scans.

Manage and facilitate intervention of identified noncompliance issues through technical assistance, resources and other means of support.

Develop and lead a collaborative program for knowledge sharing among Affiliates through various communication channels.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in related business field; CAE certification a plus.

Understanding of and evidence of successful experience working within a NAEYC Affiliate and/or chapter organization, and of shared services and/or innovative models of shared revenue between affiliated organizations.

Minimum six years of direct nonprofit work experience at a senior management level to include related nonprofit governance and strategic planning.

Proven success in working effectively and productively with volunteer, nonprofit boards.

Proven successful experience as a collaborative leader, managing a variety of projects and planning initiatives.

Demonstrated supervisory skills with ability and commitment to professional development, coaching, engagement and individual accountability.

Demonstrated commitment to DEIB, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Background and/or knowledge base in early childhood education desired.

Strong project management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment; flexible, able to work effectively within a team setting, and to manage time and prioritize work.

Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, listening plus very strong presentation skills.

Highly skilled in data analysis and evaluation metrics, nonprofit business practices, and business development strategies.

Strong technical competency and evidenced proficiency in database management, Smartsheet or other project management software, Higher Logic or other online community platforms, Fonteva and Salesforce or other association management platforms, and Informz or other email marketing systems.

Highly self-motivated, action-oriented with an entrepreneurial spirit, passion for the mission, and an eagerness to consistently apply integrity, professional maturity and sound judgment to achieve success.

Salary range:

$92,000-$120,000 Washington, DC based. NAEYC headquarters is located in Washington, DC. The salary will be determined based on the candidate's related experience and geographic location if not a local DC hire.

Note:

We hire locally whenever possible. We will consider a remote hire when no local qualified candidate has been identified for a highly specialized position.
