STATEMENT OF RESEARCH AND SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESThe qualified candidate is responsible for performing and supervising research projects in the field of immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Research will focus on studying the function of human T cell responses to tuberculosis using primary human cells from blood and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples of healthy individuals previously infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV. Work includes performing experiments, data analysis, oral and written presentation of results, writing manuscripts for publication, and grant proposals for funding from the main funding entities (NIH, NIAID). Candidates should be highly experienced in standard immunology research techniques and data analysis. Strongest consideration will be given to candidates with experience in bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data (RNA/DNA sequencing and single-cell RNAseq).The position provides an opportunity to make exciting discoveries and impact the fields of infectious disease and immunology, which includes performing experiments in a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) lab, working with human cells, and sequencing data analysis.II. TECHNICAL SKILLSA high level of experience with standard immunology techniques is essential. Required techniques include: immunomagnetic cell isolation, flow cytometry, ELISA/ELISPOT, fluorescent microscopy, PCR, and qPCR. Experience with cell sorting is preferred.Experience working with human or murine immune cell samples is required.Experience with data analysis systems such as Prism, Flowjo, and Microsoft Excel is required.Experience with R and required packages (e.g., Seurat) is preferred.Experience independently writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals is required.Experience with analysis of next-generation sequencing data (DNA/RNAseq, single-cell RNA sequencing, TCR sequencing) is preferred.III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise laboratory technicians/assistants and student trainees in experimental design and data analysis of a variety of projects.IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSMinimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, or equivalent.Experience with in vitro human or murine live T cell assays, flow cytometry, and in vivo assays in mouse or non-human primate models is essential.The successful candidate must have strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.Experience managing graduate students and/or research technicians is preferred.Send inquiries containing a cover letter, CV with a list of publications, and contact information for three references to:
