Job Description:About the Department

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences features research programs in virology, bacteriology, parasitology, epidemiology, and immunology. Additional programs exist with opportunities for collaboration within the School of Veterinary Medicine and with faculty from across other Louisiana institutions, including Pennington Biomedical and Tulane National Primate Research Center. University core facilities support advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, flow cytometry-FACS, genomic sequencing and functional genomic technologies.

Job Description Summary

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine seeks applications for clinical-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. The successful candidates will have a significant teaching role in the pathobiology professional and graduate curriculum, with emphasis in pathology (e.g., systemic anatomic pathology and general pathology) and a significant role in the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (LADDL) diagnostic activity including necropsies and biopsies. Training of residents, contributing to scholarly activity and leadership within the department are also expected. The anatomic pathology service is an integral part of the LADDL, which hosts laboratories for diagnostics and research in virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and molecular biology.

Job Responsibilities:

70-75% - Teaching: Teaching and leadership role in the pathobiology professional and graduate curriculum, with emphasis in pathology (e.g., systemic anatomic pathology and general pathology) and residents’ supervision and instruction.

Service: Having a significant role in the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (LADDL) diagnostic activity including necropsies and biopsies, and other service-related activities, including academic committees.

25-30% - Research and Scholarly Activity: Primary and collaborative scientific investigations supported by competitive funding, leading to a florid and focused scholarly activity.

Minimum qualifications:

DVM degree (or equivalent, e.g., VMD, DMV, BVSc) and diplomate status in anatomic pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and applicants that are eligible to take the ACVP board examination.

Special or physical Qualifications:

Indirect exposure to infectious agents. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Job Competencies:

Advanced in Veterinary and comparative pathology

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
