The Assistant Professor will work with the clinical technical staff and faculty in wildlife to manage clinical cases and conduct wildlife-related research within the veterinary teaching hospital. This position will teach professional and graduate students research and clinical topics. The faculty is expected to develop and maintain a successful research program focused on OneHealth.Job Responsibilities:

50%:

Manage clinical cases, perform examinations, diagnostic procedures, medical therapies, and surgeries on wildlife cases presented to the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana. Maintain medical records and communicate with technical staff and faculty about cases through regular rounds. Teach clinical year veterinary students and oversee them during their time in the Wildlife Hospital.25%:

Develop a research program focused on OneHealth and wildlife conservation medicine. Train graduate students in MS and PhD programs, serving as both a chair and committee member for graduate programs. Collaborate with other faculty and professional students on OneHealth and wildlife-specific research.10%:

Participate in didactic course teaching for professional and graduate students at the School of Veterinary Medicine.10%:

Participate in service by engaging in Wildlife Hospital, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and School of Veterinary Medicine service and committee work.5%:

Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:

DVM and 4 years of experience. Degree substitute: BVetmed and MVetmed. Specific Experience: Clinical training in wildlife medicine. Certifications and Licenses: State faculty license to practice veterinary medicine.Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in OneHealth, epidemiology, or conservation medicine with 4+ years of clinical training. Specific Experience: 3+ years of clinical experience in wildlife medicine.Special and Physical Qualifications:

This position is defined as one where substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of others. This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.FERPA:

As with all LSU employees, this position has an obligation to assist students in acquiring necessary services. Should a student appear in need of assistance with emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matters, they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.Required to lift up to 50 pounds, and perform various physical activities including standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing. May be required to answer phone calls after hours from students regarding clinical cases/emergencies.Additional Job Description:
