The Department of Sociology provides a rigorous education leading to a BA degree or a minor in the field, emphasizing high-quality undergraduate teaching, advising, scholarship, and service to the community and the university.The Department anticipates hiring temporary part-time lecturers to teach sociology courses in the following areas:Core courses, including introduction to sociology, sociological research methods, statistics, sociological theory, career planning, and senior seminar.Topics courses, including race & ethnicity, self & society, social problems, social psychology, inequality & institutions, and many others.Courses in additional areas of sociological specialization.Expectations of LecturersTeach courses that follow department requirements for course format/content.Hold posted office hours of one (1) hour per week per course.Participate in program assessment data collection as required.Utilize SSU's online learning management system and other educational technology as appropriate.Respond to student needs in an equitable, timely, and appropriate manner.Equitably promote student belonging, engagement, and success.Professional QualificationsTo be recommended for appointment, a candidate must have an MA/MS in sociology or a related field and at least one term of teaching experience.
