Job Summary

Disney is looking for

Frontend Engineers

to join the diverse and talented team that builds and maintains complex

web

applications for

ESPN.com.

As a Frontend Software Engineer working on ESPN products, you will join a team of strong, collaborative engineers that solve interesting technical tasks daily, such as scaling technology for fans across the globe, real-time updating during live events, supporting international languages and sports, and building components that are accessible for all. In this role, you will build features that will have an impact across ESPN’s dynamic pages, including game pages, scoreboards, articles, and live streaming. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about solving JavaScript data manipulation problems.

Beyond performing daily responsibilities working on our team, you will have opportunities to contribute innovative ideas for our product and learn more about the services that allow ESPN.com to scale and perform.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role

Build components and modules that are used by millions of fans around the world

Parse JSON data using JavaScript into optimal formats for our UI components

Partner with other engineering teams to solve problems while considering performance, scalability, caching, resiliency, and flexibility for expanding product requirements

Work with native teams to develop seamless webview integrations within the ESPN app

Support live event coverage and triage issues that come in to ensure an optimal experience for our global audience

Provide leadership to ensure successful delivery of initiatives

Perform code reviews and mentor junior engineers

Architect new solutions, innovate on POCs, and identify new technologies to explore

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training

Basic Qualifications

BS Computer Science or related technical discipline or its equivalent

Advanced understanding of frontend web development technologies and principles

Mastery of

JavaScript

and JS frameworks

Effective communicator, collaborator, and teammate

Able to multi-task and prioritize as needed

Quick to learn new concepts

Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

Solid understanding of

React

and

NodeJS

Intermediate mastery of

AWS

services (e.g., Cloudwatch, EC2, S3, etc)

Experience with task automation (WebPack) and CSS Preprocessors (PostCSS, Less, Sass)

HTML / CSS preferred, but not required for this role

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
