The City of Puyallup is hiring (number) bus drivers for the Senior Activity Center Trips and Tours program. Occasionally the driver may assist with other Department activities including summer day camp trips and seasonal special events.

These are ongoing part-time/non-benefit positions with a work schedule that may vary up to 10 hours per week, depending upon scheduled activities, and may include daytime, evening, and/or weekend work hours.

The City of Puyallup has a very active and thriving senior services program, including classes and programs offered at both the Puyallup Activity Center as well as off-site excursions. The mission of the is to promote the physical, emotional, and economic well-being of individuals age 55 and above and to promote their participation in all aspects of community life.Essential Functions

Bus drivers are responsible for driving the Activity Center 21-passenger bus on assigned trips and assisting senior citizens on and off the bus as well as youth groups on summer camp field trips.

Additional duties include checking a group in and delivery of payment, observing and following all safety rules and regulations, acting as a City representative, and may occasionally supervise volunteers as necessary. Employees perform a basic general vehicle inspection to include checking the oil, fuel, and lights (etc.) before starting each trip. This position reports to the Senior Services Assistant.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:Proper and safe use/operation of vehicle;Customer Service tools;First Aid and CPR methods for all ages;Necessary safety precautions.Ability to:Lift, push or move heavy items such as wheelchairs;Assist passengers on and off the bus;Promote interest in and enthusiasm for Recreational and Activity Center activities;Administer First Aid and CPR;Read maps;Follow safety regulations and procedures;Understand and follow verbal and written instructions;Provide own transportation to and from sites;Be on time for all assigned activities and scheduled shifts;Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work;Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Education and Experience:A combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position listed above.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license in good standing according to insurance guidelines by the time of appointment. Documentation is required at time of final interview.Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement (CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement or CDL Class C P-2).Employees will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal Highway Administration regulations.Possession of a current First Aid and CPR certification card at time of employment. You may obtain training through various organizations. Two local agencies which meet OSHA and WISHA standards are American Red Cross and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue. They can be contacted directly for class fees and schedules.Successful candidates must comply with a background check required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act, RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.840.

Physical Characteristics and Work Environment

Constant Demands: Constant demands include hearing and seeing. Frequent demands: Driving, sitting, talking, handling/grasping, and using foot controls. Occasional demands: Standing, walking, lifting an average of 5 pounds to a maximum of 60 pounds, carrying, climbing, pushing/pulling (wheelchairs), climbing stairs, and reaching (below knees to above shoulder). Works primarily with:Moderate noise levels and whole body vibration. Employee will spend most of time in a vehicle.
