Job Title: Part Time Instructor - Ballet School, PreBalletDepartment: Ballet SchoolReports To: Director of Ballet SchoolClassification: Part-Time, Non-ExemptHours: 4 hours per week on SundaysCompensation: $66 per hourJOB PURPOSE:To deliver the Schools curriculum, determined by the Director, to the students enrolled in San Francisco Ballet Schools PreBallet program; to develop and nurture these students; to transmit a passion for the art form.SFBS faculty may be assigned to teach any of the levels, pre-ballet through level 8, or adult open classes. All School faculty are expected to participate fully in the life of the School, which may include weekly faculty meetings, attending performances and special events, and individuals may be invited to teach during the summer session as the program needs demand.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Structure and teach ballet classes following the Schools stated curriculum. This includes level-appropriate classroom technical instruction as well as mentoring students in the artistic, musical and psychological demands needed for a career in ballet, while focusing on maintaining proper discipline in the studio (ballet class etiquette, dress code, etc.)Attend faculty meetings and participate in continuing education activities under the supervision of the Director. Participate in the ongoing daily activities of the School, including interacting with faculty, staff, and pianists, and attending performances, auditions, demonstrations, lectures and other events related to the School as required.Record and report on student attendance; relay concerns to the Associate Director and School staff.Monitor students' progress on a daily basis and report issues to the Director as needed. Meet with parents and provide feedback and assistance as appropriate.Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor, which may occur (with notice) outside of the regular class schedule.YEARS AND TYPE OF RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Minimum of 5 years experience teaching ballet and creative movement.TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:A commitment to the aims and objectives of San Francisco Ballet School.Develop students by providing kind, appropriate, and inspiring training in technique.Provide level-appropriate combinations within the structure of the stated curriculum.Give corrections to all students. Create an environment where students can accept and learn from mistakes, coach students through difficulties and provide ongoing feedback and encouragement.Responsibility for the overall discipline of the class, including enforcing dress code and ensuring that proper ballet etiquette is taught and maintained.Proactive and flexible approach to work, willingness to be involved in all areas of the Schools dance initiatives.Manage class and rehearsals in a professional manner.Personable and well presented, including wearing the proper attire for teaching.Maintain appropriate staff-student relationships; comply with the Conduct with Minors policy and other School/Association policies related to health and welfare.Communicate with students, staff, colleagues, parents etc in a manner that ensures clear and mutual understanding of information.Demonstrate diplomacy and tact in all interactions.Build rapport and develop effective, collaborative relationships with colleagues, pianists and staff.Support and provide equal and fair treatment for all.First aid and CPR qualification or willingness to attend training.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Demonstrate dance moves, styles, musicality and dynamics.SPECIAL EQUIPMENT USED:OTHER:Basic Knowledge of MS Office products, or a willingness to undergo training necessary to produce evaluations and record attendance.ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE:As America's oldest professional ballet company and one of the three largest ballet companies in the United States, San Francisco Ballet has enjoyed a long and rich tradition of artistic "firsts" since it was founded in 1933.
