Job Description:

Supports information technology and instrumentation needs within Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. Manages software and licenses related to our teaching and research missions. Manages computers / IT hardware in labs including: research labs, teaching labs and facilities such as Petroleum Engineering Research and Technology Transfer Lab, ChE Unit Operations Lab, and Chevron Reservoir Characterization Lab. Installs and maintains instrumentation (low voltage DC or 4-20mA control loops) using common protocols (modbus, HART or UART / Arduino). Specifues, supports, and maintains data acquisition and control hardware used in research and teaching laboratories, including DAQ systems, process instrumentation, process automation, PLCs, transmitters, actuators, audio/visual, computers, servers, and related equipment/software used in petroleum and chemical processes. Works closely with faculty and staff to develop and improve data acquisition systems for research and learning. Oversees and supports DeltaV and Pason data acquisition systems. Provide first-line troubleshooting and escalate to support contractors as needed.

30% Software Management: Support software used in teaching and research missions of the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering Department and Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering, including license maintenance and managing software donations.

30% Hardware / Instrumentation: Support and maintain instrumentation hardware used in research and teaching laboratories including data acquisition, process instrumentation, process automation, PLC protocols, transmitters, actuators and related equipment / software used in petroleum and chemical processes.

20% General IT support: Provide general support for faculty, staff and students related to information technology. Establish, maintain, and communicate computer related best practices; integrate campus wide practices into ChemE and PETE practices as established by Computer Services; communicate migration information; perform changes to uphold campus/college/department policies. Communicate campus policies to ChemE and PETE.

10% Acquire computer computer related resources and licenses and manage spare resources. Order, receive, verify, return as needed - hardware and software in support of the front office, all labs, and faculty computer needs as specified by ChemE and PETE. Order materials through Workday and resolve accounting invoices. Order through online web sites as needed. Other duties as assigned.

10% Oversee and support DeltaV and Pason data acquisition systems. Provide first-line troubleshooting and escalate to support contractors as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, and 3 years of Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree and 5-10 of experience

Experience with virtual machines, servers, managing simulation software. Experience in data acquisition, process instrumentation, process automation, PLC protocols, transmitters, actuators and related equipment / software used in petroleum and chemical processes.
