Biophysicist - Nuclear Receptors Research
Pharmaceutical ChemistryFull Time79938BRJob Summary
Dr. England's research laboratory (https://pharm.ucsf.edu/england) is developing small molecules to control the activity of nuclear receptors, a class of ligand-regulated transcription factors that play critical roles in human health and disease. The Biophysicist prepares and purifies proteins (expression in E. coli) and characterizes the interaction of small molecules with the protein. These interactions will be measured using one or more common biophysical methods including microscale thermophoresis (MST), Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET), and fluorescence polarization (FP) assays.Department Description
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of three departments in the UCSF School of Pharmacy and is under the administrative oversight of the Department Chair, Michelle Arkin. Through research and teaching, the Department seeks to understand the biological principles of small molecules, proteins, and cellular design, and to apply these principles for the therapeutic benefit of patients.Required Qualifications
BA/BS in related science including one year of recent/directly related work experience utilizing the techniques/methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.At least one year of experience working with cultured and/or primary cells and carrying out cellular assays in a research laboratory (college laboratory courses are
not
sufficient).Knowledge and/or experience with biophysical methods including microscale thermophoresis (MST), Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET), and fluorescence polarization (FP) assays.Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing and studying protein biophysics.PhD in cellular and molecular biology or related field.About UCSF
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
