Job PurposeThis position will provide counseling services to the student-athlete population, including but not limited to, conducting individualized performance counseling to support the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of the student-athletes’ population as well as provide group and team supports, consultation and training to coaches, sports medicine staff and other athletic department staff; participating on interdisciplinary teams, collaborating with athletic administration in the creation of prevention programming and serving on various departmental/campus committees/working groups. The position reports directly to the Athletics Director and to the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Director.Essential FunctionsProviding and coordinating a high level of counseling, crisis support, and care to student-athletes who seek well-being and psychological performance assistance, in compliance with HIPAA, state/federal laws, and professional ethical standards of mental health care.Providing evidence-based, trauma and culturally informed, counseling support for student-athletes.Support teams with a portfolio as a liaison. Duties include attending practices, competitions and student-athlete related meetings and activities when appropriate, provide presentations and workshops as needed for teams across areas of psychological health, team building, leadership, and performance enhancement.Collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services, the Primary Care Physician/Medical Director, sports medicine staff, registered dieticians, coaches, athletic staff, Title IX Office, Student Affairs and other allied healthcare professions to support student-athletes.Supervising assigned interns or graduate assistants (when licensed/applicable); Performing other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.Create programs, workshops, discussions for athletes to attend to learn about different psychological health topics and create awareness.Perform other related duties as assigned.Work ContextJob Reports to: Director.Leadership Accountability: Develops policy and strategic plans.Supervisory Accountability: Supervises associates below supervisory level.Organizational Accountability: Manages work group within a sub-unit of a department.Customer Accountability: Interfaces with regulatory authorities.Freedom to Act: Subject to general input from supervisor.Qualifications:

Minimum QualificationsEducationMasters or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field. Must be Licensed in the State of Michigan as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Psychologist (LP).ExperienceExperienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience) as a Sports Psychologist preferred or specialized training in sport psychology and/or Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) certification working with collegiate (and/or elite) athletes.Must have experience/interest in working with student-athletes, teams, and a fast-paced athletics environment.Previous supervisory experience involving the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures.Experience in conducting short-term psychotherapy with a diverse population of students, staff and faculty; including crisis work, psychological evaluations, consultations, group therapy, outreach/prevention services, and writing timely psychological notes and reports.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBusiness Knowledge:

A thorough knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) legislation and database access. Prior experience providing support services to athletic programs and events preferred.Communications Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication, and analytical skills that enable interaction with athletic staff, sport medicine staff, colleagues, administrators, faculty, and student-athletes.Interpersonal Skills:

Effective interpersonal and customer service skills working with multidisciplinary treatment teams. Must demonstrate and possess a high level of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality. Ability to handle pressure situations including dealing with sensitive and confidential situations.Problem Solving Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Identifies and solves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes data.Organizational Skills:

Demonstrated skills in attention to detail, prioritizing work assignments and responding to deadlines. Must also demonstrate effective organization and management skills.Business Acumen:

Understands objectives and mission of department and work unit; looks for ways to improve process and quality. Knowledgeable of University admissions and financial aid procedures. Must possess a solid commitment to student academic achievements. Knowledge of university operations. A good working understanding of the student athlete experience and its relationship to the university’s mission.Technical Skills:

Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment or nonprofit environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams.Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:
