Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for customer interface, evaluating project requirements, preparing proposals, closing sales, and being a resource for our customers and internal personnel. Working with the Outside Sales team, Technical Process Managers, engineering, subject matter experts, and other internal resources, the Technical Representative will ensure safety, project planning, technical suitability, and pricing standards are achieved.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Qualify and make connections with prospective customers:
Working with the Outside Sales team, process initial inbound inquiries including making initial contact, determining customer needs, and evaluating IPM’s ability to service the request.
Provide leads to the Outside Sales team based on bid lists, internal references, research, and others.
Interface with the customer to obtain sufficient details for meeting IPM’s quoting objectives:
Identify the equipment type, OEM, and features that require repair or modification.
Identify specific surface finish requirements, tolerances, GD&T requirements, and references to external datums/features (level/plumb, pass line, a physical surface, etc.) or other technical requirements specific to the application.
Identify physical obstructions that might prevent technician/equipment access (piping, other equipment, etc.).
Identify environmental conditions that might impact the project (work environment, lifting capabilities, power availability, etc.).
Identify information relating to scheduling/urgency including start date, expedited planning (if needed), period of performance to perform work, and work hours.
Information relating to safety including work environment, employee training required by the customer (OSHA 10, MSHA, site specific, etc.), and required customer-specific actions to ensure the site meets IPM’s safety policies.
Prepare a formal proposal for service:
In conjunction with subject matter experts, engineers, machinist technicians, and others, formulate a general overview on IPM’s means and methods for obtaining the customer’s technical and commercial objectives.
Estimate resource labor schedule, travel expenses, freight expenses, consumables/materials expenses, and other costs to formulate a project cost.
Prepare a written proposal that includes an overview of IPM’s technical methodology, commercial limitations/requirements, duration, and pricing.

Secure purchase order from the Customer:
Working with the Outside Sales team, deliver IPM’s proposal and follow-up with the customer to ensure the proposal was correctly received and understood.
Revise the proposal to meet the additional feedback and objectives obtained after delivery of the original proposal.
Provide reference contacts, similar project examples, or other means to ensure customer confidence in IPM.
Be the primary communication point during the performance of projects:
Utilizing routing processes and procedures, communicate the project safety, technical, and commercial details to all interested internal resources, including Engineering, Technical Process Managers, Technicians, Logistics, and Scheduling.
Coordinate schedule overview (specific travel dates, start dates, shipping dates, etc.) with the customer.
Ensure pricing estimates are kept current with the customer and capture in real-time additional charges based on as-found conditions, additional work, or delays outside of IPM’s control.
Provide continuous updates to the Customer on project progress and other pertinent details.
Receive daily updates from field Technicians and communicate with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Facilitate project close-out:
Review invoices for accuracy and completeness of charges.
Ensure any non-conformances, safety violations, or other project performance issues are documented and (as required) follow-up with the appropriate internal resource.
Ensure all project paperwork is complete and, as needed, transmitted to the customer.
Requirements
Education
A bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Business discipline desired, or equivalent technical experience
2-year technical degree, required
Experience & Skills
Three to five years of progressively responsible related experience. Specifically, this position requires:
Experience with Microsoft Windows software (word, excel, ppt, etc)
Experience with general computer software
Ability to review and interpret mechanical drawings
Proficient interpersonal communication skills
Experience in a mechanical or machining environment, preferred
Project management training and/or experience, preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where a wide variety of applications require individual solutions. Ability to interpret a mix of specifications and information furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability and desire to be a servant leader
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Ability to solve problems using critical thinking skills
Ability to organize and manage priorities, meet deadlines, and expectations
Ability to follow through on projects from conception to completion.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. These include: forklift traffic, overhead cranes, machining, welding, moving of mechanical parts and moderate noise. The majority of the work is performed indoors in a shop and office environment. Will spend a minimal amount of time outdoors in hot, cold, or otherwise inclement weather during part of the workweek.
