YesJob Summary:The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) builds collaborations between national organizations and the University of Utah, including its hospitals, clinics, and colleges. We are committed to advancing the U’s teaching, research, patient care, and community outreach—all in conjunction with our corporate and foundation partners.The Associate Director will lead continued funding growth for a wide range of research and program initiatives by working collaboratively with faculty and staff to monitor, strategize about, apply for, and report on grants and gifts. You will join a team of three CFR staff and a larger office of fundraising professionals, working closely with leaders from across the university and U Health.The work requires a deft approach, informed by an understanding of academia, foundation policies and practices, research regulations, philanthropic trends, and budgeting. The ideal candidate will also write well, get along with academics, and show interest in the goals of our internal and external partners.Responsibilities:Assist faculty, colleagues, and university grant-seekers in identifying corporate and foundation funding sources and provide assistance through the proposal process.Support co-identified thematic areas that will generate foundation support across academic.Serve as university lead for high-level foundation relationships, while also identifying and cultivating new foundation prospects.Maintain a portfolio of foundations and campus/U Health areas; develop expertise to facilitate communications between them.Develop a broad and deep understanding of current fundraising priorities across campus, as outlined by the President, CEO of U Health, Vice President for Research, and Academic and Research Deans.Assist with limited submission opportunities (where the university is only allowed to submit a single proposal and must select from among qualified researchers).Work with faculty and fundraising colleagues across campus to develop effective fundraising strategies that translate into successful foundation proposals.Write, edit and submit letters of intent and full proposals, as the primary author and in a team environment.Work with a variety of U offices to ensure proper handling of proposals, grants and reports.Identify and secure meetings for university leadership and faculty with foundation executives.Document results of all substantive contacts with foundations.Monitor RFPs, grand challenges, corporate giving, and other philanthropic trends to identify new funding sources; communicate them to the relevant faculty and staff.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in fundraising, research development, and/or university management; Master’s degree strongly preferred—PhD and scientific literacy valued; Candidates who have the communication skills and abilities to maximize effective collaboration with a broad and varied community of campus and external colleagues.This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.The University of Utah values candidates who have experience working in settings with students and patients from all backgrounds and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education and quality healthcare for historically underrepresented students and patients.All qualified individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
