At Specialized, we are committed to innovate and provide the best performance bicycles that benefit and improve our riders, supporting our purpose to pedal the planet forward and contribute toward a green environment. To strengthen our newly set up e-Bike electronics team in Singapore, which works closely with a team based in Europe, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Principal Motor Control System Engineer who is specifically obsessed with the development of bicycles or electric mobility solutions.

In this role, you will be working closely with a cross-functional team such as electronics HW, Embedded SW, Mechanical, university partners, and suppliers to enhance or introduce new motor control algorithms for the e-bike’s drive unit.

How You Will Make a Difference

Perform system modeling using first principle differential equations, transfer functions, state-space, multi-physics models (Simscape/Stateflow).

Apply classic and advanced control/estimation theory and potentially machine learning theory to develop control and estimation functions.

Collaborate with university research partners to further explore efficient motor control of the e-bike drive unit.

Evaluate algorithm design feasibility followed by providing support for software implementation and integration by the embedded SW team.

Have good knowledge of FuSa (Functional Safety) motor control features as well as MCU-based motor drive circuitry.

Perform motor verification on the motor dyno with a focus on fundamental motor control system robustness evaluation.

Demonstrate effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in a specific domain, disseminating knowledge, guiding, and mentoring engineers in methodology, best practices, and standards.

What Do You Need to Win

Master or PhD in control systems or relevant engineering.

Minimum 12 years of proven work experience, preferably working in an R&D organization of consumer electronics, consumer appliances, or automotive products.

Singaporean or Singapore PR candidates will be given priority.

Recognized expertise and proven track record of commercial experience in developing motor control software for complex electromechanical systems (e.g., PMSMs) within automotive, aerospace, or marine vehicle systems.

Experience and proficiency with model-based programming (e.g., embedded C or Matlab / Simulink, Embedded Coder).

Experience with EMag modeling using tools such as ANSY Motor-CAD.

Having sound knowledge of power electronics/inverters (control).

Knowledge of JIRA/Confluence or similar Agile Project Management tools.

Ability to multitask effectively among different projects in a fast-paced environment.

For a highly experienced candidate, we expect excellent technical guidance skills and the ability to influence the work of others.

Independent, integrity, and self-driven with a strong focus on results to ensure that the whole team succeeds in its goals.

Excellent English skills (written and spoken).
