Duties:

Teach a broad range of materials-related undergraduate and graduate courses in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (M&ME) Department as well as occasional service courses in the Lance College of Mines and Engineering and/or College of Letters, Sciences, and Professional Studies;

Teach core and elective courses in the Materials Science Ph.D. program (in partial fulfillment of Duty 1, above);

Establish and conduct a program of original, externally funded research;

Advise undergraduate and graduate students;

Adhere to faculty policies and guidelines published in the MTU Faculty and Staff Handbook and the M&ME Department Standards.

Required Qualifications:

An earned Ph.D. in materials science, materials engineering, or a closely related science or engineering at the time of appointment;

A documented record of professional experience and growth in interdisciplinary materials science and engineering;

Demonstrated ability for conception, execution, and completion of materials-related research at the Ph.D. level;

Demonstrated ability to oversee, instruct, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academic courses and research activities;

Effective verbal and written English communication skills demonstrated by a record of formal lectures, presentations, and publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree from an ABET-accredited program in materials engineering or other relevant discipline;

Post-doctoral research and/or industrial experience in a materials-related field;

Ability to obtain a professional engineering license;

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Physical Demands:

Ability to deliver nine 50-minute lectures per week over the course of each fifteen-week semester;

Ability to continuously instruct laboratory classes of 1- to 3-hours duration on a weekly basis throughout each semester;

Ability to use hand tools, operate laboratory and pilot plant equipment and instrumentation, and perform light to moderate lifting (up to 20 kg).
