OverviewThe Director of Payroll will oversee the complete US, Puerto Rico and Canadian multi-state/province payroll cycle for 7 brands and over 1,500 stores. They will manage all aspects of the bi-weekly, quarterly and year-end processes (including federal, state/province and local payroll tax filings, W-2’s, worker’s compensation, etc.) for all legal entities located in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada. They will be responsible for supervision and development of the payroll staff which includes a Payroll Manager and four staff members. The Director of Payroll maintains awareness of current practices in payroll processing and keeps the various departments within the company informed about changes in all current payroll and tax regulations, laws and policies. They will focus on process improvement and implementation of changes to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and improve controls surrounding the payroll processes. They will also be heavily involved in the Dayforce system (Ceridian) which includes time and attendance that interfaces with the current payroll system. The Director of Payroll will also be a partner to other divisions that we do not process their payroll and be heavily involved in the transition of new divisions onto the Ceridian system when applicable.Responsibilities

Oversee Payroll processing for USA – Corporate & Stores, Canada and Puerto Rico (Multiple states & provinces)Coordinate with payroll vendor (Ceridian), Store Operations and Human ResourcesPrepare various schedules for external reporting and Board MeetingsPayroll tax follow-up for all tax noticesBenefit and 401K support as neededWorkers comp filings and billingsMonitors Payroll interfaces from/to CeridianSupport payroll bank reconciliation processDevelop payroll procedures and controlsSupport external auditsSupervise payroll staff and monitor performance; develop bench strengthEnsure compliance with current government regulations for federal, state/province and local as it relates to: Overtime pay, Holiday pay, Termination pay (i.e. California requirements), State tax withholding changes, State unemployment rate changes, etc.Maintain various checklists for payroll processes, hours reconciliations, bonus payments and other compensationEnsure accuracy in all payments for regular pay, overtime, bonuses, tax withholding and all benefit deductions including 401KOversee the garnishment process to ensure that the company complies with all inquiriesQualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field10+ years of payroll and accounting experience5-7 years of experience with multi-state payroll department and payroll processing functionsFull working knowledge of payroll laws and work rules by stateProficient with Microsoft OfficeCertified Payroll Specialist (CPP) designation preferredExperience with ADP or Ceridian preferredWorking knowledge of Dayforce system preferredTravel may be required, based on business needs.Adhere to regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration. Job duties may be performed effectively using the hybrid work program designated by the company.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as the company retains the right to change duties to this position.Must have authorization to work in the United States.Physical Requirements:
