ABOUT GALT

Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with approximately 26,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99. The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

The City of Galt is located in the heart of the Delta Recreation Area in Northern, California. Thirty minutes away are the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento Delta. Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and the CA coast are all within a two hour drive making Galt a recreational haven for boat lovers and outdoorsmen alike.

ABOUT THE POSITIONThis classification has the responsibility for implementing and evaluating the operations and scheduling of sports leagues; general supervision of staff; as well as implementing tournaments and new leagues.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Parks & Recreation Director and, in his/her absence, direction from a Recreation Program Supervisor.Provides general and direct supervision to part-time recreation leaders and sports officials.

Example of Duties

Organizing and scheduling sports leagues/tournaments, (i.e., adult/youth basketball, softball, baseball, and volleyball.)Implementation of policies and rules.Provides general direction and supervision to staff.Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Modern principles, practices, and methods used in league and tournament operations.

Ability to:

Develop, plan and evaluate league and tournament sport programs. Supervise, train and evaluate recreational personnel and volunteers. Communicate clearly with the public and department employees. Understand and carry out verbal and written orders and instructions. Arrive at assigned place of work on time in a dependable manner; work varied hours, including weekends and holidays. Work in an office environment involving sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned office equipment. Meet physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including activities involving stooping, bending, and squatting; ascend and descend ladders and railings; lifting and carrying objects up to fifty (50) pounds. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Supplemental Information

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at time of appointment. Three (3) or more years in recreation work or directing group activities. One (1) or more years equivalent to Recreation Worker II with the City of Galt is highly desirable.

Training:

Completion of an accredited first aid and CPR training program within the last 2 years.

License : Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office and/or recreation equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Must possess the physical stamina to lift and move tables and chairs, arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSEmployees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONSMust be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays at a variety of City facilities.

Medical -

The City of Galt participates in the CalPERS Health Program. Part Time employees have a wide variety of choices of HMOs and PPOs and receive a set dollar amount for benefits(cafeteria plan). City's contribution for medical benefits for part-time employees shall be in accordance with the California Government Code Section 22892 of the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA) which establishes the City's minimum health premium contribution.

2022 - Maximum City Medical ContributionFor Part-Time Employe the City pays $149 towards the medical premium. Employee pays the remaining medical premium.

Retirement PlanThe City's retirement program through the California Public Employee's Retirement System ("CalPERS") is available to employees as provided in the contract between the City and PERS and in Government Code Section 20300, et. seq.

Social Security ProgramThe City participates in the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) for full time and part-time employees. The FICA tax consists of both Social Security and Medicare taxes, which are paid both by the employee and the City of Galt. Employees pay half through payroll deduction and the City of Galt pays the other half totaling fifteen and three tenths percent (15.3%.)

Deferred Compensation

- Voluntary deferred compensation plan through TIAA. The employee may elect to have any amount of money up to the legal limit withheld from their regular paycheck and placed in a deferred compensation plan in accordance with Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

-Part time employees accrue (PTO) beginning their first day of employment with the City in accordance with the chart below:
