The Department Lead, Environmental Regulatory Affairs manages PRO’s environmental regulatory compliance strategy activities, including: reviewing and evaluating line-up strategy and correlation with other business units; credit trading activities; and providing environmental regulatory interpretations for both existing and new/nascent business areas. Working with the Regulatory Affairs Division Lead, this position will help represent Honda to regulators, NGOs and policy influencers, and communicate the voice of these outside parties (regulators, NGOs and policy influencers) to key internal partners.Key Accountabilities
Compliance strategy: manage PRO’s regulatory compliance strategy activities, including close collaboration and oversight of the modeling of Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE), criteria emissions (NMOG+NOx) and Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) regulatory requirementsCompliance strategy: review iterative vehicle spec information and line-up sales plans. Evaluate with PRO models, and suggest innovative and alternative strategies to reduce burden while ensuring complianceInternal Environmental Strategy Correlation: Engage in internal environmental strategy discussions, communicating PRO’s data-driven and policy insight-based views across Honda, including initiating key projects with AHM business unit teams (including ACCII state by state analysis and compliance)Provide environmental regulatory interpretations, as needed, for both existing products and new/nascent business areas across HondaCredit management: Actively manage the strategic sale and/or purchase of credits (ZEV, GHG, CAFE, NMOG+NOx) in alignment with executive management directionIn support of Honda’s strategic interests, interface with key external stakeholders (other OEMs, trade association staff/management, agency staff/management), as neededQualifications, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related disciplineRobust understanding of how regulations and laws are created, developed, approved, and implementedRobust understanding of automotive environment- and energy-related regulations, including GHG, CAFE, ZEV, and criteria emissions programsBroad understanding of the automotive industry (suppliers, dealers, customers)Minimum 10 years of relevant work experienceStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)Ability to influence othersStrategic mindset in applying expert knowledge toward credit optimization and fleet compliance (reducing cost, maintaining compliance with margin)Awareness of evolving automotive industry landscape, including areas of new businessFamiliarity with automotive fuel efficiency, emissions control, and vehicle electrification technologiesAbility to clearly and effectively propose and communicate new concepts to executives for evaluationAbility to develop concise and easily understood PowerPoint presentationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of Honda products is a plusWorkstyle
