Accountant Job Description:
EARH and its district clinics are a regional hub for health care in Eastern Adams County, offering exceptional primary care in a modern hospital facility enhanced by advanced technology and linked to a regional network of healthcare partners. This position is responsible for supporting East Adams Rural Healthcare’s fiscal functions, including maintaining the general ledger, preparing/presenting financial reports internally and externally, and supporting the payroll and accounts payable processes. The Accountant will report directly to the CFO in a rural healthcare environment with opportunities for professional growth.
Accountant Responsibilities:
Analyze and prepare a variety of complex records, reports, and other financial documents and statements, other technical financial reporting, and special reports and projects as assigned.
Assist with month-end closing.
Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
Provide technical support and advice on management
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and generally accepted accounting procedures
Participate in financial standards setting and forecast process
Provide input in the department’s goal-setting process
Assist CFO in the preparation of financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
Maintaining fixed assets and depreciation
Helpful Relevant Experience/Knowledge:
Municipal government policies, procedures, and structure; applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Intermediate principles, practices, and procedures of governmental budgeting, accounting, and purchasing, including preparation, monitoring, transferring, and reporting (GAAP, GASB & BARS).
Municipal financial research and analysis methods and techniques.
Laws, rules, and regulations related to accounting in government operations.
Accounting software user and administration skills (SAGE Intacct)
EPIC EMR experience is preferred but not required
Critical access hospital experience is preferred but not required
Accountant Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
High-level understanding and use of Office products, including Excel
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, gaining experience in researching as it relates to accounting issues
