Under the general supervision of the Technical Coordinator, the Tech - Medical (ASCP/REG)assumes the responsibility for performing waived and non-waived complexity analysis of patient specimens for diagnosticpurposes, and related procedures in the areas of assigned responsibility under the philosophy, policies and proceduresestablished by the hospital and the Department of Laboratory Services. Such responsibilities encompass not only theinternal functioning of the Department, but also the integration of the Department into the overall functioning ofNorthwest Texas Healthcare System. The Tech - Medical (ASCP/REG) supports an organizational culture of ServiceExcellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.Job Duties/Responsibilities:Practices the profession of clinical laboratory science in the area(s) of assigned responsibility according toaccepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA '88,Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, American Association of Blood Banks(AABB), and other regulatory agencies as appropriate, and according to the approved policies andprocedures of the organization, department, and/or the laboratory Medical Director. Actively participatesin the structure, review and revision of policies and procedures. Monitors quality control data andinstrument maintenance. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and performanceimprovement in areas of assign responsibility. EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:1. Minimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in medical technology, biology, chemistry, or related science required. Inlieu of Baccalaureate degree, employee may qualify with 15 years or more experience in a CLIA certified laboratory.2. Minimum Work Experience: One year clinical laboratory internship required3. Certifications: ASCP, AMT, and/or NCA preferred or eligible4. Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level requiredPHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:1. Ability to read, write, and converse in English2. Ability to follow instructions, reason, and make appropriate judgments3. Ability to perform computer functions accurately and quickly4. Ability to understand the overall technology, operation, and troubleshooting of moderate and complex instrumentation(example: hospital and laboratory information systems, highly automated specimen processing and testinginstrumentation)13. Ability to perform mathematical operations quickly and accurately14. Ability to understand and explain the theories of laboratory specimen processing15. Ability to multi-task productively and accurately16.
