About the Opportunity:
This is an opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join a real estate investment/management/development company based in Great Neck, New York. This position is responsible for delivering financial and operational information in addition to advising on best practices and directing the accounting team. The ideal candidate will have real estate property management accounting experience and is just as comfortable hands-on as he/she is directing others. In addition, this position is responsible for corporate accounting operations, including financial reports, budgets, and forecasts. Knowledge and implementation of property management software (Appfolio) are essential in this role. Please have Property Accounting experience and have already been in a supervisory position in a previous job.
Role & Responsibilities :Review A/P invoices, bank reconciliations, rent previewsReview commercial lease abstracts, Tenant Charges, Annual BudgetsCompiles Monthly Management Reports and prepares year-end workpapersPrepares operating & real-estate tax escalationsCoordinate tax return preparation with external accountantsPrepares/Reviews certiorari formsReview draft financial statements and tax returnsPrepares RPIEs for NY PropertiesPrepares documents required by lender reporting including quarterly operating statement, balance sheet, rent roll, etc.Work side by side with the principals to forecast growth and expansion plansWork with the principals to fulfill the broad-reaching strategic implementation of proactive programs, operational improvements, communication, and other general management responsibilitiesReview, analyze, and address gaps in service excellence, policies, and procedures; proactively identify issues and implement solutionsPerform risk management by analyzing clients' liabilities and investmentsProvide accounting oversight and forecasting of current construction projectsAssist with the annual planning of corporate entitiesExperienced in and can do bank reconciliations and variance analysisPrepare reliable current and forecasting reportsAssist in Building purchase/sale/refinanceKnowledge in 1031 exchangesEnsure complianceProvide top-line support and oversight of financial activities including completing month-end closing, preparing financial statementsOversee team members with Accounts Receivable and Collections, and the development of budgetsAid in the preparation of RE strategic plans, new business analyses, and ad hoc analyses in coordination with Investor Reporting, Valuations, Operations, Asset Management, and Portfolio Management teamsRequirements:
Ability to stay calm under pressureStrong communication/interpersonal skills to liaise with investors and variousAnalytical/problem solver with proficiency in ExcelBachelor's Degree Required, Accounting preferredReliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)Multifamily experience and Tax exposureStrong leadership experience in managing a team of 2+ accountants as well as A/P and A/RStrong working knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles in the preparation of financial statements and in accounting for transactions of the companyExperience in partnership and joint venture accounting processes and reporting5+ years' experience in a senior finance role5+ years' experience within the Real Estate SectorJob Type: Full-time, in-office (Great Neck, NY) 5 days a weekCompensation & Benefits:
Salary: $120,000 - $130,000
