A recognized real estate service firm in New York City is currently seeking an experienced professional to join their growing Finance Group as their new Controller.
Responsibilities:
The Controller will:Manage the revenue accounting and broker payroll teams and partner with the related functional partners across the companyManage the close tool, including holding the various accounting teams accountable for their close timelineReview and suggest journal entries as needed, including reviewing account reconciliations, intercompany reconciliation, subledger reconciliations, as well as judgement-based reconciliationsEnsure consistent application of revenue and expense recognition across all entities as per US GAAPOversee internal collection activities and partner with external collection agencies, as neededOversee the cash application team and assist with the resolution of unapplied cashOversee the accounting for funds held in trust / escrow bank accounts, including regulatory oversightCreate and distribute accurate internal reports to various stakeholders across the organization, as requiredAssist in the preparation of US GAAP financial statements and related disclosuresCollaborate with the internal audit team on establishing and maintaining controlsCoordinate with external auditors regarding the financial audit and group controls testingPerform other duties, as neededQualifications:
10+ years of progressive Accounting experienceBachelor's DegreeCertified Public Accountant (CPA)Experience in a Leadership and/or Supervisory roleCombination of Big 4 experience and private industryPrior experience designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures in a SOX environmentAdvanced knowledge of US GAAP, Accounting for Business Combinations and Consolidation AccountingStrong knowledge of Commercial Real EstateAdvanced excel skills, requiredDesired Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in AccountingExperience with Oracle, Coupa, Workiva and FloQastExperience working in a public companyExperience working in a multi-function shared services and/or offshore environmentExperience working in large multinational businesses across multiple geographical entitiesStrong communication and organizational skills as well as impeccable attention to detailAbility to multi-task and handle several deadlines simultaneouslyStrong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
