Job Summary: Starr Insurance Companies is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join our Small Business Property Underwriting team. The Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and making decisions on insurance applications, determining coverage levels, and pricing for small business property risks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of property insurance products, excellent risk assessment skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and agents.

Key Responsibilities:

* Analyze new and renewal business, utilizing underwriting knowledge and guidelines to assess risks and determine appropriate coverage and pricing.* Review and interpret underwriting data, such as financial statements, loss history, and property valuations, to make informed decisions.* Collaborate with agents and brokers to negotiate terms and conditions of insurance policies.* Maintain a profitable book of business by monitoring performance, identifying trends, and taking corrective action as necessary.* Ensure compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.* Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to foster business growth and retention.* Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and demonstrating a thorough understanding of small business property insurance products.* Work closely with other departments, such as claims and risk control, to provide a comprehensive approach to managing risks.* Stay informed about market trends, competitive intelligence, and changes in the regulatory environment that may impact underwriting decisions.* Participate in underwriting audits and provide input for process improvements.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.* 2+ years of property underwriting experience, preferably with a focus on small businesses.* Strong analytical and decision-making skills.* Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.* Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.* Knowledge of insurance regulations and industry standards.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.* CPCU, CIC, or other relevant insurance designations are a plus.
