Description

The primary duties of the full time Learning Specialist is to provide comprehensive support and services to students with learning disabilities. The position will also contribute to the daily operation of the Comprehensive Assistance Program.

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEngage, mentor and support students in their academic and personal goalsEvaluate student academic skills development through diagnostic interviews, individual assessment of academic strengths and deficits.Help students to develop compensatory learning and study skillsTeach organizational strategies, study strategies, time management, test-taking skills and critical reasoning, reading and writing skillsWork collaboratively with the team to support studentsConduct individual outreach to students as neededConduct workshops and/or study groups related to academic successMaintain an electronic summary of all work done with studentsParticipate in weekly staff meetingsMaintain a working knowledge of learning strategies, attend trainings on topics pertaining to academic coaching/mentoring and engage in best practiceOther Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in planning and execution of the Summer Transition ProgramProvide ongoing engagement with incoming freshmen throughout the summerAssist students on academic recovery to plan for a successful semesterPlan and organize workshops and semester calendar of eventsCoordinate with Learning Specialists to implement interventions to assist studentsAssist with CAP admission process - communicating with families, reviewing documentation and scheduling and participating in interviewsAssist the Director in assessing the effectiveness of tutoring services, including conducting student surveys, usage and progress reports, and impact analyses.Help to manage student interventions, troubleshooting and connecting to campus resources, as neededCompile grade reports and other data for use by staffAssist with department initiatives and other duties as assigned by DirectorQualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities R

equired:

Master's Degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling or similar fieldExperience tutoring or coaching students with disabilitiesUnderstanding of the unique learning needs of students with disabilities and able to adapt to those individual needsA preference for collaborative approaches to problem solvingWillingness to work both autonomously and as a key member of a vibrant teamComfortable using online resources and technology to assist studentsAble to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and timelinesComfortable taking the initiative and contributing to all aspects of the program
