Job Summary and Qualifications
Responsibilities include:
Organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the MLS Education program.
Participation in the budget preparation process for the MLS Education program.
Maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program.
Regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and program personnel.
Planning and coordinating all student learning activities including lectures, tests, and grades.
Following all policies and procedures established by hospital and laboratory departments.
Assisting in the teaching and training of fellow employees and students performing laboratory tasks.
Compliance with and documentation of all regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
Having a faculty or clinical appointment at the sponsoring institution.
Using good problem-solving skills and judgment in dealing with problem situations.
Qualifications:
Master’s or Doctoral degree.
Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited college or university with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical or biological science.
ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or nationally recognized certification/licensure for international or non-US programs.
Current Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
At least three years’ teaching experience.
Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
BLS within 30 days of employment.
Completion of a NAACLS approved school of Medical Technology is preferred.
