SUMMARY
Under general direction, directs team in day-to-day technology operations, key point of escalation in maintaining system, and ensures alignment with organizational goals and strategic objectives. Establishes short and long-range goals to ensure infrastructure is equipped for current needs and aware of future plans for growth. Actively manages growth needs with financial stewardship in mind. Collaborates with Optum experts to implement standards, policies, and procedures necessary to ensure the viability and integrity of the infrastructure and related processes. Directs workflow, resolves technical problems and ensures general operations conform to established standards. Must be familiar with a diverse set of technologies including networking, border security including VPN and Firewalls. Especially close partnership with Optum Information Security team to streamline operations, identify synergies, and secure resources needed to maintain critical infrastructure tools and processes. Assists Sr. Director in managing project work and keeping the lights on. Guides architecture, Info Sec, and broader IT Operations to match the growth of the enterprise.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education, training or experience) in computer science or related discipline. Advanced degree a plus.
EXPERIENCE
Seven to ten years management experience, including a record of successful delivery of IT solutions as an IT Manager required. Strong, hands-on operations background with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of IT Infrastructure. Significant experience with mission critical systems in a 24X7X365 environment. Must possess sound judgment with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. Thorough knowledge of computer operations support including an understanding of electrical power, HVAC and fire suppression systems.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The major tasks, duties and responsibilities of the job include.Serves as primary support and backup-up to the Sr. Director, Infrastructure Operations.Racks & stacks IT devices inside a DatacenterFacilitates discussions with customers. Continuously strives to improve customer experience.Ensures availability and stability of systems leveraging our monitoring infrastructure. Manages metrics and reporting required for improving services and IT operational performance.Ensures teams are staffed appropriately with skilled personnel to ensure the timely delivery of products and services that covers infrastructure, business applications, and business process needs.Develops a highly accountable team that provides engineering and project delivery capabilities.Ensures team is staffed with clear accountability to meet service area needs. Leads team in operational planning. Allocates staff time within area of domain. Collaborates with other IT leaders to synchronize resource availability with upgrades, customer demand, and new projects.Creates and implements a maintenance schedule of applicable software and hardware upgrades including server lifecycle, vendor support and procurement of replacement systems. Works with vendors or other partner departments to secure supplies and equipment necessary to operations.Establishes accountability and manages the resolution of any technical issues that may arise to an acceptable return to service by calling on all required internal and external resources in a timely manner while communicating to business owners and management.Ensures that all systems, application, and network connections are at 100% availability to the organization.Develops and maintains a 24x7 support/service model. Strategy is focused on leveraging skills which are highly available locally. Develops the strategy and build an efficient operating model.Working with the Optum national security practice, continually monitors security trends and regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Plays a lead role in Atrius compliance with Optum CDO security requirements.Responsible for the security of the infrastructure through the management of security and intrusion prevention methodologies as outlined by IT Information Security policy. Works with Optum national security practice to maintain regulatory requirements and industry best practice.Responsible for management and execution of standard operating processes and the installation of IT Infrastructure.Defines and implements policies, procedures, and best practices. Manages overall operational policies and procedures, process improvement initiatives and change control.Develops and implements cost saving measures as appropriate within area of responsibility. Maximizes use of organizational resources.Supervises a mix of individual contributors and managers.Performs other duties as assigned.SKILLS
Ability to learn quickly, work autonomously, and address issues that arise, day-or-night. Demonstrated self-starter, with the ability to set the direction when there is little or none. Experience solving complex and large-scale problems. Strong, project management skills, time management, and problem solving skills. Willingness to support delivering projects on time. Experience planning and breaking down a task into sub-tasks and estimating effort to perform the work. Familiar w/various requirements gathering techniques. Experience facilitating meetings w/multiple customers and technical staff, including building consensus and mediating compromises when necessary. Demonstrated strong logical and technical problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts. Demonstrated strong judgment and decision making ability. Ability to excel in idea generation, evaluation, and prioritization, customer and partner engagement, and cross-functional technical program management. Ability to work w/technical and non-technical resources to get things done. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
