KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position leads the Asset Liability Management (ALM) organization of actuarial, quantitative analyst finance and ALM professionals, reporting to the Treasurer of New York Life. The Head of ALM will partner closely with business leaders and the Chief Investment Officer organization (OCIO) to effectively manage the General Account asset liability profile of the Company. In addition, the team supports business unit pricing and product teams, and ensures effective management of interest rate risk through portfolio investments and hedging instruments. The position requires a strong background in investment management, excellent effective partnership and communication skills, quantitative capabilities, and project management expertise to implement complex financial solutions. This managerial position is consultative, strategic as well as tactical, and requires hands-on leadership.
Additional responsibilities include:
Engage with business leaders, finance partners and investment professionals to ensure internal organizations are all aligned in driving ALM strategies to meet business objectives
Partner with actuary modeling leadership team to ensure that models will continue to accurately represent product liabilities across various economic scenarios
Partner with OCIO to oversee investment policies and strategic asset allocation for each business
Coordinate with Treasury and investment professionals to ensure appropriate levels of liquidity and cash are maintained after working with sales and actuarial teams to assess expected operating cash flows
Engage with risk professionals to ensure compliance with risk limits
Provide finance teams, business and corporate partners with investment income projections and attribution
Work with modeling teams to ensure we have relevant and accurate information for decision-making
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Broad knowledge and firm understanding of insurance products
Strong leadership capabilities balanced with a solid technical investment knowledge
Enhanced problem-solving and analytical abilities, and familiarity with investment strategies and concepts
Excellent quantitative capabilities and ability to effectively communicate complex quantitative concepts
Fluency in insurance general account investing, including a deep understanding for their unique and complex needs, risk appetite and buying behavior.
Ability to navigate and work effectively in a large, matrixed organization with multiple decision-makers and stakeholders
Fact-based problem-solving skills. Ability to generate sound business recommendations in alignment with New York Life’s core values
Action-oriented with the ability to drive resolution in a timely, proactive manager with strong follow-through and the ability to focus on end results
Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform
Continuous improvement and quality mindset, demonstration of accuracy and thoroughness in a work output and decision-making
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in finance or business); MBA and/or CFA preferred
