About the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream

In just over a year, the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD) will open its doors in Washington, DC to visitors from around the world. Our visitor center, based in beautiful and historic bank buildings across from the Treasury Department and White House and directly on Pennsylvania Ave, will contain interactive exhibits and state of the art technology focused on the dynamic story of the America Dream. The Center will also host an extensive online community and gathering place that features virtual exhibits, inspirational and educational programming, exciting research about economic and social opportunities, and global competitions.

About the Position

The Center's External Affairs Team seeks a dynamic, flexible, and experienced digital outreach and strategy professional to join our growing team. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Affairs, the Director of Digital Strategy will be part of a multidisciplinary leadership team and will lead the planning and execution of the Center's public-facing digital structure, online engagement, website, and content offerings that span in-gallery and online.

MCAAD's digital offerings will connect its physical home to global online audiences and help build reach and impact ahead of MCAAD's opening. The Director of Digital Strategy will be essential in driving the vision and execution of this work, while working closely with the entire MCAAD team and Milken Institute's digital team.

Responsibilities

Digital Engagement StrategyCraft and implement high-level strategy for digital engagement leading to MCAAD's public opening and beyond, with tactical and practical plans for seeing projects to completion and measuring success. Help identify key online audiences, their relation to physical audiences and other stakeholders, and develop strategies and tools to reach those audiences.Work closely with the Executive Director, leadership, and content teams to establish MCAAD's unique value proposition in a busy virtual landscape.Manage team members and external vendors and keep website development on track and on time.Platform Development

Work closely with Senior Director of External Affairs, Director of Marketing and Communications, and relevant MI teams to design and launch a new Visitor Center website, designed for reaching audiences and driving engagement.Work closely with MCAAD's content team and digital project managers and vendors on developing and implementing digital experiences that span in-galleries and online, such as videos, digital games, online exhibitions, and more. Determine plan for developing digital exhibition content.Lead or liaise with teams responsible for ticketing, CMS, space management, for the best possible integration. Advance other digital-related workstreams as requested.Ongoing Content Creation and Digital Engagement

Identify the areas and opportunities for MCAAD to create original content, repurpose content, or commission content, and create and implement plans for creation. This could include video series, partnership content, games, animations, online exhibitions, and more.Build and lead a new Digital Strategy team to manage web presence and digital-first content creation.Work closely with audience engagement team teams to map out editorial calendars, launches, announcements, social media campaigns, brand reveals, and more.Present to stakeholders and the public when requestedRequirements

The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, a creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving, a good sense of humor and at least 8 years of experience developing digital platforms, outreach and strategy for nonprofits, policy or advocacy organizations, museums, or similar public-facing cultural venues, with 3 of those years managing people.Must have a clear track record of successful launches of new online platforms and products, and a deep knowledge of digital and online resources can be integrated into a 21st century cultural organization.Must have proven experience building CMS systems with abilities to determine best systems to integrate uses; working in HTML and skills to build, maintain and sustain secure systems and tools.Must be able to expertly use development tools and technologies, including CSS3, HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, XML, Adobe CC, and content management systems, to design, develop, and maintain complex websites and other online products.Must be able to create engaging user interfaces for online products using knowledge of visual design techniques and principles effectively to convey conceptual and educational project components.Must be able to manage vendors who will develop wireframes, prototypes, and intuitive navigation systems and interaction models using information architecture principles, including hierarchy, search, scalability, and consistency.Will be responsible for managing online content using content management systems (experience with Drupal preferred).Will be responsible for applying user research techniques, including interviews, personas, surveys, card sorts, journey maps, contextual inquiry, A/B tests, heuristic evaluation, competitive analysis, and usability testing to inform design decisions and create user-centered experiences.Must have the ability to develop user experiences that are responsive across devices and function effectively in major operating systems and browsers, and skill in testing and optimizing online products for functionality and performance.Must have the ability to ensure online products conform to MI technology, security, privacy, and accessibility (Section 508, ADA, and W3C WCAG 2.0) protocols, standards, and policies.Must have the ability to manage the development and lifecycle of online products, balancing competing priorities and expertly coordinating with internal and external teams to meet project milestones and ensure projects are implemented successfully within budget, scope, and schedule.Experience in audience development and measurement cutting-edge immersive and experiential platforms, developing new projects from early stages, and building and leading new teams is a plus.Skills using Google Analytics, Webtrends and other measurement tools to collect and analyze usage statistics, track behavior and content performance. Ability to generate recommendations for online product performance and improvement of the user experience.Strong, demonstrated project management skills working across complex teams.MCAAD's topical focus means a background or special interest in its mission and pillars is beneficial: health and science, education and learning, finance, entrepreneurship, or areas that explore unique aspects of the American journey: immigration, aspiration and inspiration, multi-generational families, democracy, economic and social mobility, and more.The ability to quickly develop positive working relationships, support colleagues, be flexible, and thrive in a fast-paced, fun, and creative environment is a must.Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States.

This position will work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to your respective office location (Tuesday - Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change in the Institute's sole discretion.
