Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with mechatronics experience to work with a team responsible for designing, installing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting automation and controls for mechanical handling systems. This position requires close collaboration with diverse cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has cross-discipline competence in mechanical and electrical design for system integration, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the interdependencies between software and hardware. Adaptability and quick learning are key traits, as project requirements may evolve rapidly. The successful candidate will have a direct impact on the productivity of the Plant Controls Team and the broader Kairos Power organization.

Responsibilities

Develop mechanical controls programming using Allen Bradley PLC.

Program in languages identified in IEC 61131.

Provide engineering design input for electrical, mechanical, and overall control systems.

Collaborate with Engineering Teams in real-time to ensure alignment in a rapid iteration environment.

Assist in the selection and procurement of electrical and electro-mechanical components.

Perform debugging and root cause analysis for complex software and hardware integration problems.

Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure the reliability and functionality of the mechanical handling system.

Prepare and give oral presentations to external stakeholders.

Manage devices on industrial networks and establish reliable communication.

Define requirements for interaction between end users and control systems.

Maintain strong documentation practices to enable collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

B.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.

2+ years of relevant work experience preferred.

Recent or upcoming graduates with relevant classroom, internship, or senior design project experience in mechatronics controls are encouraged to apply.

Good understanding of feedback control system design, system identification, signal processing, and its application to control systems.

Strong knowledge of sensors, actuators, and control systems.

Knowledge of stepper motors, servo motors, and feedback sensors related to mechanical handling.

Ability to understand basic electrical, electronics, and mechanical drawings.

Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and familiarity with IEC 61131.

Proficiency in computer methods for data acquisition, control, and analysis.

Knowledge of industrial protocols and networking is a plus.

Experience with Python, C#, C++ is a plus.

Knowledge of database administration is a plus.

Experience with Inductive Automation or Human Machine Interface development is a plus.

Contribute to project documentation, including schematics, manuals, and user guides.

Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Broad experience across controls engineering topics.

Work closely with engineers in other disciplines.
