Head of Executive Compensation/Global Total RewardsThe Head of Executive Compensation is responsible for designing, implementing and administering compensation programs for executive officers of Northern Trust. The role will work and partner directly with the Control Functions, business/functional Senior Management, governance bodies, HR functions and the Head of Global Regulatory to ensure compliance with regulations, supported by the development of policies, procedures, and communication tools. Responsible for providing documents, or input into documents, for the corporate Human Capital and Compensation Committee in partnership.

The role will manage a team responsible for design and administration of executive compensation.The key responsibilities of the role include:• Designs, implements, and administers compensation programs for eligible employees, officers, and executives of the Corporation• Analyzes and prepares various reports on executive incentive plans, stock option plans, and long-term capital accumulations• Conducts and participates in surveys of competitive executive compensation and variable pay practices• Advises senior management on issues involving the interpretation and administration of executive compensation programs• Monitors and reviews complex long term incentive programs and executive salary administration to ensure consistency and compliance with Corporate policy, guidelines, and budgets• Keeps abreast of compensation policies and trends relating to the Corporate’s compensation policy/programs, such as executive incentive plans, stock plans, etc.• Oversees the administration of executive compensation plans and executive compensation analysis• Makes staffing decisions, manages expenses and salary review process for the division• Participates in developing division strategic plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit; follows through to ensure that objectives are met• Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication• Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and / or business knowledge and functional expertise• Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of business function activities. Carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues

Skills/Qualifications:• 10 or more years of experience in executive compensation and/or related compensation disciplines in financial services• Demonstrated proficiency via extensive technical and business knowledge and functional expertise in designing and administering executive compensation• Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills. Experience with conducting presentations to clients, peers and/or senior management related to reward materials• Demonstrated ability to consult and interface with all levels of management and apply influencing skills• Past experience demonstrating strong change management and project management skills• Ability to solve highly complex problems through quantitative and qualitative analysis in a team-based environment• Critical attention to detail - demonstrated ability to consistently deliver at a high level of accuracy• Highly proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint• Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services• Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view• Proven ability to coach, train, mentor and engage a small team of professionalsWorking Model:
