Academic Director of Cytogenetics Laboratory
The Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level for Director of Cytogenetics. The laboratory is responsible for performance of Cytogenetics services at University Hospital – the school’s 519-bed tertiary care core teaching hospital in Newark, NJ as well as the performance of consultative cytogenetics and molecular genetics studies.The successful candidate will provide leadership to the Cytogenetics Laboratory and be responsible for interpretation and reporting of FISH and chromosome analysis. The candidate will interact closely with clinical staff and be an active participant in the educational programs of the Department including teaching medical students and residents and will be expected to engage in productive research activities. The candidate will also assist in the operational management of the Core, contribute to scientific journals and grants and participate in scientific conferences/meetings.Applicants must have experience or fellowship training in all aspects of cytogenetics practice, including karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization, test validation and laboratory management. Experience in genomic technologies, such as comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and optical genome mapping is strongly desired. Additionally, candidates with experience in next-generation sequencing, microarrays, and molecular diagnostics who would be able to support activities within our Genomics Center are also strongly desirable.Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
A MD, DO, MBBS or PhD is required along with board certification or board eligibility in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (required for pathologists) and in the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics, or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics with a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical cytogenetics.
